This Week's Scoreboard

Every women's Division I final from the whole week of Mon., Oct. 12 – Sun., Oct. 18 — 41 games. The women's game doesn't only play on Friday and Saturday: Boston College blanked Merrimack on Wednesday night, and St. Lawrence and New Hampshire split a Thursday–Friday pair in Durham. (No games were played Mon., Tue. or Sun. this week.) The headline weekend still delivered — No. 1 Ohio State and No. 3 Minnesota split a classic at Ridder Arena, Princeton erased a 5–2 third-period deficit to stun UConn in overtime, and Wisconsin hung 12 on Minnesota State. Every score card carries its full box score and line chart — period-by-period scoring, goaltending, team stats, forward lines, defense pairs and dressed goalies. All 41 results verified Oct. 20, 2026.

Box scores and line charts for every game verified Oct. 20, 2026. Goal totals in parentheses are the scorer's season total after the goal. Line charts list skaters in the order published for each game — forwards grouped by line, defensemen by pairing.

The Polls

Ohio State holds No. 1 in both polls after splitting at Minnesota, but the gap is closing: Minnesota jumped Wisconsin for No. 2 in the Coaches Poll, Northeastern rocketed from No. 6 to No. 4 after routing Quinnipiac, and unbeaten Colgate (6–0–0) keeps climbing. The Coaches Poll is voted on by 20 coaches and media members; USA Hockey's poll is released Tuesdays.

Storylines & The Road to Duluth

The 2027 Frozen Four is set for AMSOIL Arena in Duluth, Minnesota — semifinals Sunday, March 21 and the championship Tuesday, March 23, 2027, moved by the NCAA so all three games air on ESPN's linear channels. Here's the season in brief.

Championship Pedigree

Four straight finals: Badgers vs. Buckeyes

2026Wisconsin 3, Ohio State 2 — Pegula Ice Arena, University Park, Pa. Claire Enright scored the winner with 6:18 left; Ava McNaughton's 34 saves earned Most Outstanding Player. Wisconsin's ninth title, most all-time, and the first repeat since Clarkson 2017–18.
2025Wisconsin 4, Ohio State 3 (OT) — Ridder Arena, Minneapolis. Kirsten Simms tied it on a penalty shot with 18.9 seconds left in regulation, then won it 2:49 into overtime.
2024Ohio State 1, Wisconsin 0 — Durham, N.H. Freshman Joy Dunne scored the only goal with 7:12 remaining; Raygan Kirk's 26-save shutout took Frozen Four MOP honors.

Wisconsin and Ohio State have accounted for every national title since 2018 — and met as No. 1 vs. No. 2 in 17 straight meetings coming into this season.

Patty Kazmaier Award

A wide-open race for the first time in years

The 2026 Kazmaier went to Wisconsin defender Caroline Harvey — just the third defender ever to win it, and the reigning Olympic tournament MVP. Finalists Tessa Janecke (Penn State) and Abbey Murphy (Minnesota) were her U.S. Olympic teammates.

Harvey, Janecke, Murphy and 2025 winner Casey O'Brien (Wisconsin) have all graduated into the PWHL pipeline. The early 2026–27 favorites: Ohio State's Joy Dunne and Hilda Svensson, Quinnipiac sniper Kahlen Lamarche (42 goals last season), and Wisconsin's Cassie Hall.

Coaching Carousel

New eras at Minnesota, Providence, Merrimack, Syracuse

  • Minnesota: Greg "Boom" May was promoted after Brad Frost was fired in March 2026, ending a 19-season run with four national titles. May's Gophers beat No. 1 Ohio State in his first month.
  • Providence: Nicole Norton steps up from associate head coach after Matt Kelley's late resignation.
  • Merrimack: Courtney Kennedy, the former U.S. U18 head coach, takes on Hockey East's toughest rebuild.
  • Syracuse: Veteran Brian Idalski is the Orange's new head coach.
Freshmen to Watch

The class of 2030 arrived loud

  • Nela Lopušanová, Wisconsin (Slovakia) — WCHA Rookie of the Week Oct. 5; 1G–3A against Minnesota State on Friday.
  • Rosalie Tremblay, Wisconsin (Canada) — four goals and five points in her first game back from national-team camp.
  • Adrianna Milani, Minnesota — scored 14 seconds into the upset of No. 1 Ohio State and finished with 2G–2A.
  • Chloe Brinson, Princeton — her first collegiate goal was the OT winner against No. 8 UConn.
  • Rowan Houweling, G, Ohio State — beat Wisconsin twice and made a career-high 31 saves at Minnesota.
  • Alexis Ehrman, G, St. Cloud State — the nation's early save-percentage leader at .972 (as of Oct. 11).
How March Works

Eleven teams, one NPI

The NCAA tournament takes 11 teams: the five conference tournament champions earn automatic bids, and six at-large teams are picked using the NCAA Power Index (NPI), which replaced the old PairWise. The top four seeds host regionals (March 11–14, 2027), and the four winners advance to Duluth.

Last year's field: auto-bids Penn State, Quinnipiac, UConn, Franklin Pierce (its first-ever appearance) and Ohio State, plus Minnesota, Minnesota Duluth, Northeastern, Princeton, Wisconsin and Yale.

Around the Rinks

Surges, streaks and a second-year program

  • St. Cloud State has charged from unranked into the top 10 behind Alice Sauriol and a freshman wall in net.
  • Assumption is a perfect 6–0 in NEWHA play — the conference's early story.
  • Delaware, the 45th D1 program and the first in its state, is in year two under Allison Coomey after a 17-freshman debut roster.
  • November wrinkle: the IIHF Women's Worlds in Denmark (Nov. 6–16) will pull stars like Ève Gascon and Caitlin Kraemer out of lineups mid-season.
  • Ice Breaker: the 2026 Women's Ice Breaker Tournament runs Oct. 23–24 at Boston University, with Minnesota State, Yale and Robert Morris.
